TinkrLAB and Dow Partnering to Make Face Shields

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - TinkrLAB and The Dow Chemical Company are working together to make face shields for workers on the frontlines. TinkrLAB made 2,500 face shields with the help of volunteers.

Melissa Rabideau, President and CEO of tinkrLAB tells HOMTV, "We partnered with DOW because when we were starting our print force project with the 3D printed masks and face shields, we had contacted them and said, 'Hey, will you help us with the face shield?' and it kind of spun from there. They decided to make this a whole project that we can work on together rather than giving a couple rolls of film of face shields, let's actually make an impact and partner with you guys and donate film for this project."

She also explained that they started working with Dow four weeks ago. Melissa hopes this partnership continues on. She also says, "Dow is incredibly supportive in what they’re doing."

The first batch of face shields gets transported to the State of Michigan Management Department by a big semi truck and then the Management Department will decide where those shields go.

Hospitals are to contact tinkrLAB if they need face shields. A lot of facilities that reach out to them are smaller facilities like nursing homes and independent living in addition to the hospitals.

Melissa explained they have laser printers and laser cutters, as well as laser cutters that individuals own. East Lansing High School is running their laser, photon creation is also running its laser, and two other individuals are running a laser in their homes.

Melissa wants people to know that this project is 100% volunteer based, from tinkrLAB coordinating everything and to people who are cutting at their houses, businesses, or schools. It is a community effort.
