MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Consumer Education Series wraps up at the Meridian Senior Center.

On Tuesday, November 23rd, the final session of the 2019 Consumer Education Series concluded.

The topic being discussed was on learning the in and outs of being a victim of identity theft.

Seniors gathered together at the Senior Center for classroom discussion as well as to ask questions to Meridian Township Police Officer, Chrissy Scaccia, about knowing what to do if they become a victim of identity theft.

Officer Scaccia did have this advice for all attendees at the end of the session.

"If any resident feels that they might be a victim of identity theft, there are multiple resources online. If they feel they are unsure if they have maybe no family members in the area or anybody they can trust, they can simply come to the police department and request to see an officer," Scaccia said.

Since June of this year, Meridian Township Treasurer Phil Deschaine, organized this series talking about multiple topics that all are equivalent to the growing threat of cyber-attacks.

Besides identity theft, the other topics discussed include knowing how to protect yourself from scams online or on your phone and on paying attention to what you are clicking on while on the internet.

This important series was made possible by representative, Chris Coady, from Michigan Attorney General's Office.

Treasurer Deschaine looks to partner again with the Attorney General Nessal to bring this series back to the Township next year.
