Love a Park Day at Hillbrook Park.
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On May 18, Meridian Township held their 5th Annual Community-Wide Love a Park Day event. The event brought together residents and members of organizations like the Kiwanis Club. Township officials also participated including Stewardship Coordinator Kelsey Dillon, Assistant Township Manager/Director of Public Works Derek Perry and Treasurer Phil Deschaine.
"We started about five years ago and it's a way to focus our attention on our 20 plus parks and natural areas one day a year. We bring out volunteers from different church groups, community groups, the Kiwanis Club is here, Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts and many other organizations that all just come out individual members and we are working at six different parks today," said Treasurer Deschaine.
In other parks like Orlando Park, William Gohier, President of the Kiwanis Club of Haslett-Okemos, was really happy to have the Kiwanis Club participate and take great pride with making the park a great place for the community and have a number of volunteers moving mulch, raking, weeding and cleaning.
Another member of the Kiwanis Club, Victor Samuelson, has been involved with Love a Park Day for multiple years.
"Typically we come out with the third Saturday in May assigned a park where we weed, clean it up and spread mulch and make it look really nice for the upcoming Spring and Summer and Fall. We have been doing this for a long time and it's one of the things we try to do for the community and for the Township."
Meridian Township looks forward to continuing this event next May.
