MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township Board has had one empty seat since Julie Brixie was elected to the role of State Representative for the 69th House District. Previously holding the position of Treasurer for the Township Board, Phil Deschaine replaced her when she resigned from her position on the Board; this left another empty seat at the table.
Yesterday, that seat was filled when Courtney Wisinski, who previously served on the Park Commission, was sworn-in as the Township’s newest Trustee.
Clerk Brett Dreyfus conducted the swearing-in ceremony in front of the Township Board and members of the community. During the ceremony, Trustee Wisinski took an oath where she promised to “support the constitution of the State of Michigan and the constitution of the United States” and “faithfully perform the duties of Township Trustee in and for the Township of Meridian, County of Ingham and State of Michigan, according to the best of my ability.”
After swearing-in the Township’s new trustee, Clerk Dreyfus explained the value and honor in the oath she took.
“Not everybody in Meridian Township takes the sacred oath,” Clerk Dreyfus said. “It is a sacred vow that is made by the community in viewing their trust in you, so go forth and do good.”
Township Manager Frank Walsh expressed his congratulations and welcomed Trustee Wisinski and her family to the team.
“We’re looking forward to you joining our team,” Township Manager Walsh said. “I think the board made a great choice. We had some great candidates to look at.”
Trustee Wisinski said she is honored to join the Township Board.
“I’m really excited to work to make sure Meridian Township is safe and healthy as possible,” she said. “I’m looking forward to all your input and help to do the best job I can.”
She will attend her first Township Board meeting tonight as the new trustee. It's a joint meeting between the Township Board and Commissions and starts at 6 p.m.
Now that Trustee Wisinski is on the Township Board, there is a vacant seat on the Park Commission. To inquire more information about this open position, contact Parks and Recreation Director LuAnn Maisner at (517) 853-4600.
