OKEMOS - Friday December 7th was a cross town rival double header night. The Lady Chieftians hit the court after the boys to go from 1-0 to 2-0.
However the Grand Ledge Lady Comets came out the gate with high tempo offense and aggressive defense. Where as for the Lady Chieftains it took them time to warm up.
For the entire first half of the game the Chieftains trailed the Comets. However production on offense picked up in the later part of the 2nd quarter.
At halftime the Lady Comets lead the Lady Chieftains 32-25. When the 2nd half of the game started up the Lady Chieftains came out with a new attitude and aimed to rally back to clinch the lead, hopefully to get the win.
But the lady comets held the lady chieftains with an aggressive defense and making a lot of production on offense.
Key Players for Okemos included Laya Hartman who sported #33 tonight and Jasmine Clerkley who sported #23. Clerkley had 10 plus rebounds throughout the night as well has multiple opportunities to shoot free throws.
The Grand Ledge lady Comets got the win with a final score of 56-46. With a young team, and a lot of the season up ahead, the Okemos Chieftains now have an overall record of 1-1 as they hit the road to play against the Brighton Bulldogs on December 11th, tipoff at 7pm.
