OKEMOS - A scoreless second half, and a defensive battle between the Okemos Chiefs and the Grand Ledge Comets, the Chieftains would take this one away with a critical defensive stop with less than a minute left on the clock.

Almost a year to the day, Okemos would travel to Grand Ledge, and the Comets would break their undefeated streak in the CAAC Blue.

“It was really about getting one last stop, our defensive coordinator, and the whole staff just put together a great a game plan. And anytime you can hold Grand Ledge to seven points, that's pretty special,” said Okemos Head Football Coach, Mike Krumm.

Tonight, Okemos would turn the tables playing their first downs in their new facility on behalf of the Grewal family.

“Were chasing to win, they played us pretty tough, we want to stay in this and continue to make a push to the playoffs and if we get lucky enough to get to the conference title that's something we will work for too,” said Krumm.
Okemos would get on the board first with 4:56 left in the first quarter, and then a safety by Derek Sims would put the Chieftains up 9-0, with 9:40 left in the first half.

With less than two minutes in second quarter Grand Ledge would quickly answer and Aaron West with the catch, would leave the halftime and final score of 9-7.

“It was an exciting night for our student athletes, exciting night for our coaches, our fans, the community of Okemos. To have this turf were very thankful to the Grewal family to donate the money to get the turf, and then our student athletes that came out and performed at such a high level, and to beat a great program like Grand Ledge was unbelievable,” said Okemos High School Athletic Director, Ira Childress.

In the second half neither team would be able to convert, and with less than five minutes in the 4th quarter Grand Ledge would move the ball quickly down the field to get deep in Chieftain territory with less than a minute. Grand Ledge was out of timeouts, and a pass break up by the Okemos Defense and no time left on the clock would be the deciding factor.

“We want to set the bar on the field, we want to set the bar in the community, we want to set the bar in the classroom. We want to be the 360 student athlete. When we have a great facility like this that really adds to what were trying to do here at Okemos high school,” said Childress.
