Meridian Township Water Receives Clean Bill of Health

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Local residents will be happy to know that the local water supply has been given a clean bill of health.

As part of a statewide initiative to test drinking water in schools, the East Lansing-Meridian Water & Sewer Authority (ELMWSA), which provides much of the water for local schools, had their water supply tested by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) for man-made chemicals known as PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

The ELMWSA was notified on August 27th by MDEQ that their water supply did not contain detectable levels of PFAS.

When asked about the importance of knowing about the quality of our water supply, one Meridian Township resident, Jay Smith, said, "it's really important, we depend on our drinking water to be fresh and pure, so it's great news to hear it's been tested, and that it's actually as fresh and clean as they say it is."
