MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Over the weekend, a special celebration to dedicate the newest additions to Meridian Township's Park System was held.
Hundreds of people came out Saturday afternoon to help Meridian Township celebrate the opening of Towner Road Park.
The new park includes two athletic fields, two baseball diamonds, six pickle ball courts, a pavilion and walking trail.
The park was acquired to serve the purpose of creating a sports facility in 2005. After years of public input and planning, construction on the park began last year. Development cost for this park was $1,900,000, funded by the Meridian Township Park Millage.
Towner Road Park was not the only celebration though. The Will Goodale Memorial Kick Ball Tournament followed the ribbon cutting in honor of 10-year-old Will Goodale.
"In the process of planning what we were going to for the ribbon cutting event, Mr. Goodale and Mrs. Goodale reached out to us and said they wanted to host an event to honor their son, their son always wanted to be a police officer so they wanted to raise money to give back with scholarships in his honor."
