MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Since 2007 Michigan State University (MSU) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have been conducting Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) research in Meridian Township parks.
Leah Bauer, PhD, Research Entomologist, US Forest Service, Northern Research Station, began studying the use of biological control to manage the EAB at Meridian Riverfront Park, Central Park South and Nancy Moore Parks.
EAB is an invasive Asian beetle that is destroying ash in forests over much of eastern North America.
At the May 8th Park Commission meeting, Professor Bauer requested to continue the research on ash trees. That request was once again approved.
