MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On April 3rd, Meridian Township Police Chief Dave Hall announced his retirement from his position after almost 40 years of service to the community.

“I have enjoyed my time in law enforcement, especially working to build the Department’s relationships and trust with our residents, schools and community,” said Hall.

Chief Hall began his work for the Township on December 26th, 1978 as a patrol officer and was the only internal candidate to be sworn in as Police Chief in 2004.

In 1999, he created the Citizens' Academy under the direction of his predecessor which then expanded to include the Youth Citizens' Academy.

He worked to continue the School Resource Officer Program and the D.A.R.E. Program for the Haslett and Okemos Public School district, even during the recession.

Chief Hall fostered agreements with Williamstown Township to provide public safety services, oversaw neighborhood meetings, helped secure grants to improve public safety including automatic license plate readers in 1999, digital car cameras in 2005 and body cameras in 2017.

“We will miss Chief’s integrity, loyalty and calm demeanor,” said Township Manager, Frank Walsh.

The hiring process for the new Police Chief will begin immediately. According to Walsh, “The most important quality that I plan to look for in a potential Chief candidate is the desire and ability to lead our efforts in preventing sexual assault. We will follow through on our public commitment to Brianne Randall-Gay and all Nassar survivors.”
