MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On Wednesday, February 28, it was the 11th Annual Student Art Exhibit where the award ceremonies were held at MSUFCU Headquarters. Family and friends were invited to come out to enjoy and evening of art.
Over 160 pieces of art work from 18 different high schools in the Lansing area were displayed. The exhibit featured all kinds of different art like paintings, sketches, 3d paintings and animations. Each school chose up to 10 of their most creative pieces. The art work highlighted the talent of the art programs offered at each of the participating high schools.
Sophomore Aviana Irrer won 2nd place for her art sculpture of a pregnant woman.
Irrer said, "I chose a pregnant mother because I wanted to purposely make her ethnically ambiguous with the black hair, and how you are not really sure what ethnicity she is. This was to kind of demonstrate that anyone, regardless of their culture, origin or religion, can be a mother."
Many different awards for the art pieces were given out such as: social media, the people's choice, school spirit and a new animation award. Award winners also received $300 prizes for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. Cash prizes were also awarded to the honorable mention winners.
The event is a fun evening for students and their families and continues to grow bigger and better each year.
