UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With tax season quickly approaching, Joyce Lafleur gets busier than ever. She's been helping with taxes for 42 years because she just loves taxes.
"I love taxes, I started in 1971 and I had work for several years for an agency and I went to work for the state income audit. And I have been in this position for 14 years," says Lafleur.
Each year, experts like Joyce have been helping senior citizens with tax preparation at Tri-County Office On Aging main office in Lansing. They are even available to answer questions over the phone.
Preparing income tax forms can be overwhelming but tax aide volunteers are on-hand to help.
Lansing resident Kathy Toebe has been coming to the office for 3 years to get helped. She says she appreciates the program because taxes are overwhelming.
"I think it's great that they are helping, a lot of people cannot get their taxes done so if more people do know about this program, it would benefit them," says Toebe.
Seniors can bring questions about many types of returns except for the most complicated ones such as farm or rental returns.
The taxes are filed electronically and refunds usually arrive within a couple of weeks.
No appointment is necessary and the service is completely free. For more locations, call the Tri-County Office on Aging at 517-887-1440.
