The Grand River Avenue/Okemos Road Intersection To Remain Closed This Weekend

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township Assistant Police Chief Ken Plaga says the Grand River Avenue and Okemos Road intersection will remain closed for at least 48 hours.

The intersection was closed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on Thursday, February 22 due to high water levels.

"The rivers have crested and now it is just going to take time for the water to recede," said Plaga.

Plaga added that it is not safe to drive through any water.

"Not only do we have depths of water that don't look as deep as they really are, we also have potholes and other road issues underneath there that are going to affect vehicles."

So far, 15 cars have had to be rescued because they tried to get through the closed intersection of Grand River Avenue and Okemos Road.
