MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On February 1, 2018 the Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh and Police Chief Dave Hall issued a live public apology to Larry Nassar Survivor, Brianne Randall-Gay during a press conference held at 12:30pm at the Meridian Township Town Hall Room.

Randall-Gay reported her sexual assault case to Meridian Township Police back in 2004 against the former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor. Instead of moving the report over to prosecutors the case was closed. Randall-Gay's case was brought back into light in 2016 after multiple victims came forward with sexual assault allegations towards Nassar.

Randall-Gay spoke during the press conference via Skype addressing a room full of media, Township residents and officials. Township Manager Walsh, started off the conference by issuing a teary-eyed formal apology.

“I want to start, first of all with the most important reason we’re here. And that’s to apologize. On behalf of the community, our police department, to you, Brianne. We failed you, we let you down. I know we’ve had a lot of private conversations, private apologize, but we felt that this needed to happen in public. Because what happened to you was in public," said Walsh.

Randall-Gay reported that she had went to see Nassar for her medical condition called scoliosis, back in September of 2004. The police report stated that during her appointment she accused Nassar of touching and groping her breasts for about 5 minutes and then proceeded to grope her vaginal area. When questioned by police, Nassar was able to convince them into believing that this was a legitimate medical procedure.

Brianne spoke to HOMTV during the press conference today on how she feels after nearly 14 years and how the Meridian Township is dealing with this situation now.

“I’d like to say I really do appreciate the kindness and support by Chief Hall and Frank Walsh. But it’s still very difficult to comprehend what happened and the report has been very difficult as well. I can't change what happened to me back then but I can hopefully change the future for other victims,” said Randall-Gay.

Township Manager Walsh and Police Chief Hall announced new initiatives and training regarding Criminal Sexual Conduct investigations within the Meridian Township Police Operations including training videos in partnership with Randall-Gay.

The initial Criminal Sexual Conduct Training is expected to begin in March 2018.
