LANSING - The Michigan Township Association has learned that the Senate Energy and Technology Committee will be holding a hearing on the Uniform Video Services Local Franchise Act (Public Act 480 of 2006) on Tuesday, June 14 at 1 pm This act created the new uniform franchising process related to cable/video franchising authority for local governments. Further, it created, for the first time, a role for state regulation related to cable and video services, which has traditionally been regulated by federal law and local franchises. No bill is before the committee, however, townships that have had bad experiences under the current law are encouraged to attend the hearing and share their experiences.
Meridian Township Supervisor Susan McGillicuddy and Cable Coordinator Deborah Guthrie will be testifying at the hearing.
