OKEMOS - Kids and parents had a hayday at the scarecrow making workshop at the Capital Area District Library's Okemos branch.
The event started at 4:30 pm on October twelfth and was lead by Tom Shilts, the Youth Services Librarian at the Okemos Capital Area District Library.
During his scarecrow making demonstration Tom Shilts said, "And then you will pin the shirt to the pants, we have lots of pins, and then you may wanna stuff more straw in it, and for the head I have Meijer's bags you can use, or if you have a pillowcase, yes, that's even better."
Straw, twine, markers, pins, fun hats and instructions were all provided. All that was required was to bring your own clothes.
"What we do is we supply straw, we supply the pins, we supply the twine and people bring their own clothes and we make a scarecrow." said Tom Shilts.
Julie Lesniak, a kid attending the event, describes the scarecrow she made,"A mouth, and a nose and a magic hat."
Lizet Lesniak, a parent attending, said the event is great for families to enjoy together: "It's important because, the kids after school they can enjoy time with parents and they have fun; everyone has fun."
