MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township Fire Department received the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA).
Meridian Township Fire Department Fire Inspector Tavis Millerov said the amount of smoke alarms that we need has increased.
"The way we use smoke alarms and the technology behind them evolves over time," Millerov said. "We are to the point now where one smoke alarm in your home is not good enough anymore."
With a grant total of $70,000, Meridian Fire will be able to install 2,500 smoke and carbon monoxide combination monitors.
This grant also allows Meridian Fire to distribute educational materials concerning smoke and carbon monoxide.
"We're gonna bring some materials in there to give them education on why smoke alarms are so important and give them information in general about smoke alarms and their use," Millerov said.
The Fire Department plans to have each alarm installed by August 31st, 2019.
