OKEMOS - Coming off their shutout win over Mason last week, Okemos was excited to see if their success would continue facing the Ann Arbor Skyline Eagles. The crowd and packed student section was cheering i support of their Chieftains from the first second they stepped onto the field.
The first quarter started off rocky for the Eagles, as Okemos sacked their Quarterback 4 times and scored a total 13 points making the score 13-0.
During the second quarter, and over excited Okemos Defense received a few false start penalties, but that didn't keep them from stopping Ann Arbor. A late second quarter hail mary pass by the Eagles set them up within 10 yards of their first points. But then Okemos' own Domonique Clerkley turned their drive around, first blocking a touchdown pass, then on Skyline's fourth down conversion pass, Clerkley intercepted the ball and ran for a 90 yard touchdown. Okemos with their spirits high, the student's chanting "I believe that we will win" went into halftime 39-0.
The third quarter saw a fired up Okemos come back the field to continue their offensive dominance. Even after another big play by Clerkley blocking a punt putting Okemos deep into Ann Arbor territory, setting up a big scoring opportunity, the Chieftains could not capitalize as the Eagles defense held them off ending the third quarter scoreless but still in the lead at 39-0.
The last quarter of play showed more life on both sides of the game. Okemos gaining 7 more points putting them up 46-0 but then Ann Arbor answered with the last minutes expiring off the clock, getting a touchdown and a 2 point conversion, making the final score 46-8.
The Chieftains now look to next week as an undefeated team with only 8 total points scored against them.
"I'm feeling great! The kids are outstanding, it's fun to watch them play!" Okemos Head Coach Jack Wallace said. "I'm looking forward to taking some time off to get ready for our next game."
