MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The water main extension has moved to the first of five stages in the special assessment process.
The water main extension became an action item after the Township Board received a petition to improve water quality by extending the water main 1,600 feet east of Van Atta Road.
The petition established a special assessment district, or SAD, which will fund the extension. The SAD would then fund the cost, estimated at $273,000.
The Board unanimously voted 'yes' to pass resolutions one and two which discuss the plans, cost estimates, and declaration of the Board's intention to make the improvement.
The next step in the process will be two public hearings. The first will be held on Sept. 19, 2017 at the Meridian Township Town Hall.
