MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Environmental Commission adopted the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan at their Aug. 2 meeting with an unanimous vote.
Created by the Meridian Township's Energy Team back in June, the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan addresses the township's commitment to environmental stewardship.
The plan outlines a framework to promote more energy and renewable efficiency within township policies and actions.
Some of the long-term goals of the plan include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving significant energy and water cost savings.
“In our last meeting there was a lot of different suggestions made, and I think we have pretty much incorporated all of these in the latest draft,” Environmental Commissioner John Sarver said.
On June 20, 2017, the Meridian Township Board adopted a resolution in support for the Paris Climate Accord. this sustainability and climate action plan is consistent with the accord.
Meridian Township is one of many local governments who have established goals through similar action plans to make the communities more sustainable, resilient and vibrant places to live.
