MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township is full of trails which the residents believe should be preserved. Stretching over 20 miles, the Township has been connected by nature for more than 50 years.
While the trails may be fun, residents understand how important it is to preserve them.
Meridian Township resident Charlie Sawaya said it is important to keep the trails clean for future generations.
"Michigan does contain the most groundwater than any other state," Sawaya said. "It's a special place we need to keep clean."
Perry resident Phyllis Shorman said the trails are important especially for the kids.
"We need kids out there to learn about the different kinds of flowers and the little animals and things that they'll find along the way," Shorman said.
Some ways residents can preserve the trails is by picking up pet waste and make sure to properly discard of trash.
