MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament came to Meridian Township for the first time on July 15 - 16.
Basketball hoops lined up and down Central Park Drive as 265 teams came out to compete in the tournament. The competition was at an all time high and the spectators were enjoying every bit of it.
The Gus Macker is a 3-on-3 tournament that maintains the basic rules of street ball. Males and females of all ages participated in the weekend event. At the the end of the tournament winning teams received their championship trophies, and trophies for the sportsmanship awards were given out as well.
The tournament also included its first celebrity game. Special guests included Okemos High School Girl’s Basketball Coach and retired WNBA player Kristen Rasmussen, WKAR Current Sports host Al Martin and the founder of Gus Macker Scott McNeal.
The teams for the celebrity game were split up into two; Team Haslett and Team Okemos with Team Okemos winning the game. Detroit Piston Commentator, Greg Kelser also commentated the game.
“It’s for a great cause, raising money for a great cause, and a great way to kick off the Gus Macker being here in Lansing.” said Al Martin who was named the first ever MVP of the celebrity basketball game. “I’m just glad to be apart of it.
