Residents Share Concerns at Community Conversation

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Community members came together to ask questions and voice their concerns to Township officials during the informal "Community Conversation".

Topics included the Police and Fire Protection Millage, the state of some empty lots and the relocation of the Meridian Farmers' Market.

The meeting began with special guest, Yukon the police K-9. Yukon showed the audience his abilities and the audience was able to ask any questions they may have about Yukon or other K-9 dogs like him.

The floor was then opened to discussion about the possible relocation of the Meridian Farmers' Market. It was suggested that the market could be moved to the Meridian Mall parking lot, close to Studio C!.

Several audience members voiced their concern once the floor was open for discussion about the Police and Fire Protection Millage.

Concerned community members asked questions about pension, why the Fire Department needs a new ladder truck and where exactly the money is going and more.

Discussion about the millage took up most of the conversation. As the discussion moved past that topic, community members voiced concern about empty lots with sprawling overgrowth, empty buildings and wondered how the Township is working toward revitalizing Downtown Okemos.
