INGHAM COUNTY - Ingham County may have a new sheriff, but the same sounds familiar.
Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth has been the Ingham County Sheriff for about six-months, he is sitting at the desk of the former sheriff, who happens to be his father.
Just outside his window is the Gene L. Wriggelsworth Training Center, recently renamed in dedication to his father. It was Sheriff Wriggelsworth who thought to change the name of the center.
"I often think as a society we do a great job of honoring people after they're gone for the sacrifices that they made, but I think we can do a better job of honoring those that are still with us," Sheriff Wriggelsworth said. "My dad was in law-enforcement for 50 years, was the elected sheriff here for 28 years, so I had the idea to name a portion of the building after him and the county commissioners were willing to allow me to do that."
Sheriff Wriggelsworth says the re-lettering cost nothing to the county. He ran for the elected Sheriff in 2016 with the help of his father.
"It's been a really, really unique, very, very enjoyable journey to take with my father, who's my hero," Sheriff Wriggelsworth said.
His father comes by the department about once a week and is staying busy enough in his retirement says Sheriff Wriggelsworth.
