OKEMOS - The firefighters in the Greater Lansing area teed off Friday at the College Field Golf Course to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
This was the 10th annual year that the fundraising golf outing took place and approximately a hundred people came out to show their support for the organization.
"I started this golf outing with us [Delhi Township], and about two years later Meridian Township's John McDermott wanted to get involved with it so we started it and been running it ever since," said Chris Baldwin, the event coordinator for this fundraiser. "East Lansing and Lansing has gotten involved with it so the outing has grown."
The tickets were $75, and it included 18 holes of golf along with a cart, lunch, drink tickets, prizes, awards, and a sports memorabilia auction. All of the proceeds raised will go to the local clinics that supports MDA.
MDA is an association that works to help individuals fight through the harm of muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other muscle diseases that takes away the patient's physical strength and independence.
Last year the event raised $185,795 and with this year being their biggest turn-out the group is hoping to raise more than that.
