NOVI - The road to the State Championship game came to an end for Okemos Girls Lacrosse on Wednesday night in the state semifinal game against Cranbrook Kingswood. Despite the 14-8 loss, the Lady Chieftains came out to play and fought hard for all 50 minutes.

Cranbrook Kingswood tallied 2 points onto the scoreboard within the first 4 minutes. However, the real story of the first half was Cranbrook's Jessica Geiger. Geiger stole the show, scoring 6 goals for her team before halftime. Her quick feet and ability to move the ball made her nearly impossible to stop, and Okemos had no answer for her.

Cranbrook took a 9-3 lead going into the second half, and despite Okemos's best efforts to climb their way back into the game, the Cranes were simply too much for them. Cranbrook scored back-to-back points before Okemos's Melaina Grewal responded, driving to the endzone for the goal. Despite a late surge by Okemos, Cranbrook Kingswood held on, winning 14-8.

Sadly, this loss marked the end of a fantastic season for the Okemos Chieftains, who finished with an impressive record of 17-3-2. When talking to Coach Brandon Schwind, it was clear that despite the disappointment felt by him and his team, there was a lot to be proud of. "We worked hard in practice. We had high expectations at practice, and they met all of those expectations this year and we look to continue our work in the off-season."

Cranbrook Kingswood will advance to play East Grand Rapids for the title.
