MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township celebrated Love a Park Day by beautifying four of their 29 parks.
Volunteers from Williamston Daisy Scouts, Haslett Kiwanis Club, Haslett Cub Scout 265, and the Greater Lansing Young Professional Club prepared the parks for the upcoming summer.
Love a Park Day began three years ago by Township Board Trustee Phil Deschaine.
Meridian Township Parks Department Park Naturalist Kelsey Dillon said the goal is to get community members engaged.
"We want to be sure that they understand that these parks are for them," Dillon said.
Volunteer work included planting flowers, mulching and general clean-up.
"We get a lot of work done," Dillon said. "It is so great to see so many volunteers come out and care about their parks this much."
According to Deschaine, there are plans to expand Love a Park Day to all of Meridian Township's 29 parks.
