EAST LANSING - Former Ingham County Commissioner, Penelope Tsernoglou announced her intentions to run for 69th State Representative in 2018.
“I’m excited to announce my candidacy for State Representative. The outpouring of support from members throughout the district’s communities has been humbling and I look forward to serving as a fighter for progressive values in the legislature,” said Tsernoglou.
Tsernoglou, a Democrat, is a small business owner, attorney and served as an Ingham County Commissioner representing East Lansing for six years.
According to her press release, "while on the County Board, Tsernoglou worked with the courts to uphold and expand high standards of justice, access to representation for indigent defendants, and vital programs for juvenile offenders; worked to develop and implement the Parks and Trails millage to expand and improve the trails networks in East Lansing and Meridian Township; and spearheaded the 2016 Animal Control Millage to fund a new shelter with increased services to County residents."
The 69th House District includes the City of East Lansing, Meridian, Williamstown and Locke Townships, being represented by House Democratic Leader Sam Singh. Singh's term ends December 2018, in which he can no longer seek re-election because of term limits.
