MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The name Julie Brixie is widely known among the Meridian Township area. A name that may be making it's way to Capitol Ave., and be just as known across the State.

Brixie has filed to run for State Representative of the 69th House District.

Since 1998, she began her public service efforts, where she first sat as a member of the Meridian Township Zoning Board of Appeals. then making her way to serving on the Planning Commission. In 2000 she was elected as Meridian Township Trustee for two terms and currently stands in her third term as Meridian Township Treasurer

Brixie said her public service career is focused around helping the state of Michigan face it's many challenges.

“The stakes are high right now, our roads and bridges are crumbling, our schools are underfunded, tuition rates continue to soar and our environment and women’s rights are under attack,” said Brixie. “The issues before us are numerous, challenging and require someone with the knowledge and experience to tackle these difficult issues.”

The 69th House District includes the City of East Lansing, Meridian, Williamstown and Locke Townships, being represented by House Democratic Leader Sam Singh. Sing's term ends December 2018, in which he can no longer seek re-election because of term limits.

“Once again we’re losing a great public servant, but I am certain that Leader Singh will continue to serve our local communities and state once he leaves office,” said Brixie. “I’m running to continue the long legacy of experienced, knowledgeable and dedicated leaders that have represented us at our Capitol.”

In the case of Brixie being elected, the position will begin in January 2019. She would then have to resign as Meridian Township Treasurer. The Township Board would appoint a replacement for the remainder of her term that ends November 2020.

Brixie said the best way to serve your community is to get out and visit with residents to learn what issues they are concerned about– this is what she is looking forward to doing.

“This has always been my approach, and I plan on wearing out a lot of shoes, walking all across our local communities to visit with residents and hear about their ideas for how we can work together to create a brighter future for Michigan,” Brixie said.
