LANSING - The 10th annual caregiver retreat was put on by the Alzheimer's Association in Lansing.
The event was sponsored by many other organizations and businesses in area as a way to give back to those who spend their days taking care of others.
The event consisted of speeches, shopping, and manicures and massages as a way for caregivers to be pampered.
"It's just a long, wonderful day for caregivers to come in and rejuvenate, to educate themselves, and to just relax," said Jennifer Howard, the executive director of the Alzheimer's Association Great Lakes Chapter.
For Judy McQueen, this day means so much. She lost her husband to Alzheimer's disease recently after being his caregiver for 17 years. She said appreciates getting to relax and connecting with others who have had a similar experience.
"Your whole life becomes your loved one that you're taking care of and you really don't take as good care of yourself as you should," said McQueen. "We've become a real support system to each other and that's really what it's all about."
