LANSING - 30-year-old, Janye Snider lost her dad in July of 2016 when he was struck by a car riding his bicycle into work.

Snider says her father was her biggest advocate and initially encouraged her to join at the program that lead her to her biggest achievement.

“I think he'd be proud of me," said Snider. "My dad had a huge influence even though it's not always easy to talk about."

Shortly after experiencing the loss of her father, Snider's future career sky rocketed.

“Delta airline awarded me a technical operations maintenance technology scholarship," said Snider. "There were tons of people all over the worth that applied for it and they selected me, I was kind of blown away."

In her first year at LCC, Snider was awarded a $5,000 scholarship and the opportunity to travel to a conference in Florida through the Women in Aviation International organization.

"There I was able to meet some of the executives at Delta," said Snider. "They actually offered me a job when I was there. To know that I have a place that wants me to come to work when I'm done is amazing."

Before attending LCC, Snider worked at the Lansing airport for just over four years.

"I liked working with my hands so I found the program and got enrolled."

“We are very excited for both Jayne and our program. For Delta airlines to offer her this scholarship is a significant achievement on her part,” said The Lansing Community College Aviation Technology Director, Mark Bathurst.

“I grew to love it and wanted to make a career out of it,” said Snider.

While Snider wishes her father could be here to see her success, she says, 'life can be tough but we just have to keep moving forward. I know that’s what he would want.'
