LANSING - Buses from Flint and Detroit made their way to Lansing on Wednesday March 22nd for World Water Day.

Water Activist gathered at Central United Methodist Church where the Detroit Peoples Water Board Coalition held a listening session. Residents from Flint, Highland Park, and Detroit shared their stories about toxic water and a recent number of water shut offs. During the listening session speaker Lila Cabbil said, “we do not want World Water Day to be a day; everyday is World Water Day.”

After the listening session, Water Activist got into groups based on their State Representatives and headed over to the State Capitol. Their mission was to lobby a new Michigan Water is Human Rights Bill Package that would be introduced by Representative Stephanie Chang. Water Activist are hoping talking one on one with Representatives an being more aggressive will push these news bills forward. A similar water bill package was introduced last year, but most didn’t make it into committee. Their ultimate goal is to see clean affordable water for everyone.

Later in the afternoon, Grand Rapids Water Protectors will join the Detroit Peoples Water Board Coalition and other Activist for rally before ending their day of lobbying at the Capitol.
