UPDATE:
MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The conditions for the Harris Nature Center's Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe Event weren't ideal, but residents were still able to hit the trails.
The Harris Nature Center had their first of three Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe events of the year. Participants can pay three dollars to ski with their own equipment or nine dollars with rented equipment. Usually there is an opportunity to use snow shoes on the trails but the conditions have to be right.
Rebekah Faivor, Assistant Naturalist at the Harris Nature Center, had this to say about snowshoeing conditions. "Unfortunately for tonight's event we didn't get to use snowshoes because there's not enough snow. We're lucky we got the three inches we did but you actually need about 6 inches of snow that's real good heavy snow not the light fluffy stuff".
The last two events of the year will take place on February fourth and eighteenth and any adults, teens or kids over the age of eight can participate. If you are a first time skier or snowshoer the Harris Nature Center does offer classes if you are interested.
The Harris Nature Center also offers ski and snowshoe classes. To register, call 517-349-3866.
