MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On October 7, 2016 Governor Rick Snyder announced that Criminal Justice agencies across the state will receive 6 million dollars in federal grants to strengthen anti-drug and fighting efforts. Out of this 6 million the Meridian Township Police Department will be receiving $13,500.

The police department will be purchasing automated citation software that will allow officers to effectively issue citations electronically.

These citations will be transferred to the court system and automatically loaded in to the records and management system, according to Assistant Chief of Police Ken Plaga.

“Automated ticket writing increases officers safety by reducing the amount of time officers are on the roadway. it reduces the amount of time officers are stopped in traffic which is one of the most dangerous situations for police officers,” said Plaga

This new software will allow officers to keep their heads up and not have to print out a ticket so that they will be more aware of their surroundings and what’s going on so things will be safer for them.
