OKEMOS - Grand Ledge held off a late fourth quarter lead to take home the win, 28-21, against Okemos on Friday, September 16.

The Chiefs get the early lead in the first quarter off of a blocked fourth down punt, returning it for a touchdown.

Grand Ledge takes their time, but answers with a touchdown landing of their own.

First quarter comes to a close with a tie at seven each, but the
Comets start the second quarter at fourth and two inside the Chiefs’ 10-yard line.

Grand Ledge takes the opportunity, topping Okemos, 14-7.

The Comets get through but the Okemos defense is persistent; it’s the Chiefs offense that is a little shaky.

The Chiefs juggle between three quarterbacks: Domonique Clerkley, Jason Pridgeon and Carter Mashburn.

Grand Ledge gets the ball back and attempt a 45-yard field goal on fourth down, which doesn’t get far and reaches Okemos, who takes it down to their own 35-yard line.

The Chiefs profit off of this possession, taking it all the way to the end zone.

They fake the extra point, but go for and snatch not only the two-point conversion, but the lead.

Okemos leads, 15-14, at halftime.

Third quarter finds the Comets in possession of the ball, who run 19 yards to once again shift the lead their way, topping Okemos, 21-15.

As the seconds winded down in the third quarter, Okemos threw an interception with six second left, putting Grand Ledge at their own 26 at the start of the fourth.

Okemos fullback Drew McGaughy recovers a Grand Ledge quarterback fumble and runs 34 yards for to score another touchdown for the Chiefs.

Tied at 21, McGaughey is on the ground after a Grand Ledge run.

What was a fast, close game, turned into a question on whether the teams would continue to play.

After the trainers take a look at him, an ambulance arrived at Okemos High School to take McGaughey to the hospital.

He appeared to be conscious and responsive, giving a thumbs up as he was carted into the ambulance.

The game continued with just under 10 minuts left of play.

With 3:49 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Grand Ledge carries the ball for 20 yards, widening their lead, 28-21.

Okemos pressures but they can’t recover.

The Comets come out victorious, 28-21, against the Chiefs.

Heading to Mason at 7 p.m. next Friday, September 23, Okemos’ overall record is 1-3.

The Cheifs only won one game last year, but they look much stronger this time around.

Grand Ledge will travel to Jackson on the same day, also at 7 p.m.
