OKEMOS - After the Chiefs' biggest win of the season so far, shutting out Lansing Eastern, 6-0, Okemos is handed their first CAAC Blue conference loss by Grand Ledge on Wednesday, September 14.
The Comets topped the Chiefs by only one goal in the first half, and were able to hold off the Chiefs during the rest of the game.
In the ninth minute of play, a cross into the penalty area stopped at Grand Ledge's Nate Cox, who knew he wasn't open, quickly passing.
Cox tapped it to Nick Myszak, coming from the left.
Okemos' defenders approached Myszak, with good coverage of the goal, but Myszak slides it by before the defender can reach him.
Chiefs goalie Patrick Restum can't reach far enough as Myszak's shot reached the back right post.
While both teams tried to pressure in the second half, it was Okemos who dominated possession of the ball.
The last 10 minutes of play proved tough for the Comets, as the Chiefs held nothing back and kept the ball on Grand Ledge territory.
The Comets, with focused goalkeeping, were confident in their back line and played comfortably defending their own net.
The score remained, 1-0, in favor of the Comets.
Having won this and their previous game, against Jackson on Monday, by only one goal, Grand Ledge head coach Scott Dane said he wants the team to get a bigger lead and continue scoring, instead of just defending their side of the field.
Grand Ledge hosts Forrest Hills Northern at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 15.
The Chiefs travel to Mason on Saturday, September 17, to participate in Compete for a Cause.
September is childhood cancer awareness month, and the Compete for a Cause event benefits pediatric cancer and will feature Okemos at Mason and Haslett at Williamston.
