MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Stepping through these doors, means stepping back in time--and inside, for the Meridian Township Heritage Festival, you'll find Pegg.

"Everything has a history," said Pegg Ainsley, a seamstress from Socks Etc.

Even..socks. Pegg makes them by hand on this antique machine, and one pair takes her five hours to make. But Pegg knows you can learn a lot more by doing things the old fashioned way.

"If we know the history, then we have a better understanding of who we are and where we came from, and what's important for people."

And that's the goal of the Meridian Township Heritage festival, according to director Jane Rose--to take the township back to it's roots.

"As a historian, some would even say a history geek, I think it's so important for people to understand things weren't always like they are today," said Jane Rose.

The Meridian Township Heritage Festival even had cubs scouts in pack 265 ditching their screens, for some games that are a lot harder than they look, like ones where they have to throw a heavy pot as far as they can.

Cub scout Gryffin Porter played some games--but also rose the flag with his pack--something he says taught him an important history lesson.

"To represent and honor the civil war fighters," said Porter.

The day was full of families headed back in time, and with one last horse and carriage ride around the village...it's back to 2016 until next year.
