OKEMOS - The Okemos boys’ soccer team tied, 1-1, against Detroit Catholic Central on Wednesday, August 31.
Coming from a, 2-0, win against DeWitt and having a home-field advantage, the Chiefs created scoring opportunities throughout the entire game, but the Shamrocks controlled the possession.
The Chiefs’ goalkeeper, Patrick Restum, kept the score even at zero with five saves in the first half.
Scoreless after the first half, DCC increased the speed and pressure of the game, moving the ball quickly and advancing into Okemos’ box multiple times.
Although the Shamrocks had more shots on goal, it was
Okemos who put the ball in the back of the net first.
At the 44-mintue mark, forward Ben Meschke gets the long pass from midfielder Talon Christenses, breaks through DCC’s defender and slides it through the bottom left side.
DCC goalkeeper Kevin Blossfeld gets a hand on the ball, but it slips by and goes deep in the net.
The Chiefs lead, 1-0, and the Shamrocks increase the pace once again, leading Okemos to make quick decisions.
Possession of the ball was even during the next 23 minutes of play.
At the 67th minute, DCC advances to the box, where three Shamrock players were in front of the goal.
Logan Trevorrow gets a shot from a rebound and evens out the game, 1-1.
As the final whistle approached, DCC pressured the Okemos defense, but the Chiefs held them to the tie.
The Chiefs (2-1-3) will travel to Holt on Wednesday, September 7 for a conference game.
