MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The anticipated wait is over as the Central Fire Station in Meridian Township received its new fire engine.
The engine replaces Engine 93, the oldest engine in the department's feet, which has been operating in Meridian Township since 1993.
The typical life expectancy of an engine is 20 years and Engine 93 has defied the odds and surpassed that number .
According to Lieutenant Jeff Rommeck, Engine 91 was purchased this year and was a three year process to finalize the specs on the truck.
Rommeck says he likes how it is custom built for the Meridian Township Fire Department and made in Michigan.
"We are excited to get it on the road," he said. " The state requires everyone to drive it before we put it into service; we have to get 32 people through it."
Spencer Manufacturing, Inc. built the body and Spartan Chasis, out of Charlotte, produced the custom chassis for the fire engine.
