MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A Boil Water Advisory has been put into effect for the water systems in Meridian Township and East Lansing, both of which are supplied by the Water Treatment Plant operated by the East Lansing-Meridian Water & Sewer Authority (ELMW&SA).

According to the ELMW&SA, a filter issue this morning has caused a treatment technique violation.

In consultation with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), a Boil Water Advisory will be in effect until the microbial quality of the water is safe.

“As residents of Michigan we clearly understand the necessity of properly monitoring water quality. Meridian Township will be visible and pro-active in our approach to monitoring the current water issue at the East Lansing/Meridian Township Water Plant," said Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh.

Residents are to bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute and cool before using. Or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making
ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice.

Water samples are being required by MDEQ so the advisory will last at least 24 hours to confirm negative results. As of 10:00 am on August 5th, filter performance has been restored and turbidity levels at the plant are
returning to normal.
