OKEMOS - Okemos high school held tryouts for its Fall sports during the week of August 8 - 12.
Sports that held tryouts are: football, boys' soccer, girls' swim and dive, volleyball, cross country, cheerleading, boys' water polo, girls' golf and boys' tennis.
During tryouts, upperclassmen were able to practice their skills and learn new ones, while incoming athletes and freshmen were able to showcase what they knew for a chance to earn a spot on the team.
For athletes trying out for sports like volleyball and football, how they did at tryouts determined which position they would play that upcoming year, with the possibility of a change depending on development.
Boys' tennis head coach Chris Silker said that having many players returning from the previous season will make his team stronger and a bigger threat.
Girls' volleyball head coach Jamie Ianni said she will soon retire and is using these seasons to hand off the program to her daughter, who was a Chiefs and Michigan State University volleyball player.
All Fall sports begin their season before school starts, but were only allowed to start practicing or having tryouts on August 10, according to MHSAA rules.
