OKEMOS - The first lesson for the kids was dribbling. But for the kids at the On Goal soccer camp, the lesson from July 26-July 30 in Nancy Moore Park was the same every day--shooting for a better relationship with God.
"The quality of the training is excellent, and kids learn a lot," said Tom Fite, Director of On Goal. "But they will also this week will be encouraged in their relationship with God. We're a Christian organization, we partner with churches, and we combine soccer... and also learning about life's greatest goal, which is knowing Jesus."
This is the 26th year that the camp will take place in Okemos, partnering with the First Baptist Church of Okemos.
The camp starts off every day with the lesson of the day, before the team pep talk and meeting. The day ends with team competition. For the kids, combining a global sports theme is an important vessel to carry a bigger message. Fite said many kids walk away saying it was the best week of their lives.
"This year we're really talking about passion," Fite said. "It's not only passion about the game soccer but learning about how God is passionate for us."
