INGHAM COUNTY - Ingham County voters will have the opportunity to vote on the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter millage on the August 2nd Primary Election ballot.

Voting 'yes' on this millage, residents will be agreeing to a ten year tax increase to support the $6.8 million shelter. The new shelter will provide up to 21,000 square feet of space.

Along with the new shelter, if this millage passes, the number of service days the shelter provides will be extended. They will also increase employment, provide two public entrances, and bring back the 24/7 on-call service.

The current shelter was built in 1971 and is in pretty rough shape, according to the Director of the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter, John Dinon.

"There's a lot of things we can do in a new shelter to make it a healthier place for the animals, an easier place for the staff and a better place for the citizens of the county to come adopt or buy licenses or whatever they need to do with us," said Dinon.

With the advancements and changes in animal care, Dinon stresses that this cannot be done in their current shelter.
