MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Construction crews have been hard at work on laying down new piping on Jolly Road just west of the Okemos Road intersection. This construction project was given to Central Excavating from Westphalia, Michigan. The crew began work on Monday, July 11th.
The old pipe system has been in place since the 1970s, so it is time to replace it. The new pipes that are being installed have a life expectancy of about 75 years.
Throughout this construction project, Jolly Road will not be totally closed, but will be reduced down to one lane in each direction with a utilized traffic shift.
Jolly Oak Road will be closed at Jolly Road throughout the duration of this project, however, access to Jolly Oak will be available at Okemos Road.
“Well we set some restrictions in the contract to make sure that the work is done and Jolly Road is back open before school is back in session: both the Okemos School District, as well as MSU and home football games," says James Ensign, Project Manager from Spicer Group.
Spicer Group, Inc. laid out the design and engineering for the project, and will be supervising the construction.
The laying down of the new pipes is scheduled to be done around the end of August.
