MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - If you haven't noticed yet, there are many people out walking around with their cell phones in hand. What could they possibly doing? They are catching Pokemon.
"Pokemon Go" is a game that was released on July 5th, and has already reached the number one spot on the iOS App Store and Google Play. People far and wide are out walking around trying to "Catch 'Em All."
If you are playing this game, be sure to stay safe while out on your quest to catch Pokemon, and that is meant in the literal sense, not virtual. The game tracks your location and places the creatures in the world around you.
"I think it's an amazing way for people to finally become a Pokemon Master, and it's a great way to get out and get some exercise while having fun," says Johnathan Drushel-Smith, a Meridian Township resident.
This world-wide craze has made it's way to Meridian Township. The Township Municipal Complex has seen a lot of foot traffic as gamers explore their surroundings.
The National Safety Council urges gamers to consider safety over their scores before a life is lost. No race to "capture" a cartoon monster is worth a life.
Distracted driving laws also apply to catching Pokemon behind the wheel.
Motorists are also urged to be cautious of pedestrians who are walking with their face buried in their phones.
"Pokemon Go" may be the new craze, but many agencies are urging everyone needs to be careful while walking around their community.
