UPDATE:
OKEMOS - Dan Stolz and the Okemos boys' basketball team hosted their home opener last week against the Lansing Everett Vikings.
The Chieftans took an early lead and kept it for the entire game, which was a very physical one. Each team finished with 24 fouls, plus three technicals for Everett.
After the game, Stolz stressed the importance of keeping composure in this kind of game.
"I just told them, we're wearing Okemos on our chest and need to represent it well. I think we did that and were very classy."
He also expressed satisfaction at being able to get more players into the rotation, as the game was never close after the opening minutes. With a 15-player team, he said, it is difficult to make sure everyone gets a chance to play, and this game allowed him to do that.
Taylor Moton led the Chieftans with 22 points, followed by Chris Harrison-Docks with 21 and Nate Lafayette with 13. Everett was led by James Mills with 17.
