• Okemos High School will create their own traffic safety related campaign.

UPDATE: OKEMOS - Okemos High School is one of the first schools in the state to participate in a new program that helps make teens safer drivers. The program is called "Strive For A Safer Drive" which will provide funding and resources to student groups to develop campaigns that educate their peers about safe driving.

The program originally started in Illinois and turned out very successful, so the State Of Michigan decided to officially adopt it.

As a participant, Okemos High School will receive a $2000 grant to create their own traffic safety related campaign.

Chapian Sagourney, a Junior at Okemos High School, is excited about the grant because the students can show the true impact of distracted and drunk driving to all of their student bodies at school.

What's different about this campaign is that students will be learning from other students, instead of an instructor.

Sarah Wakeman, a Junior at Okemos High School, thinks the campaign is a great idea to get advice from her fellow friends because she can relate easier.

The program will start in January and will go throughout the semester.
