MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This Fourth of July, fun will be in the air. So will fireworks. Lots and lots of fireworks.
And while fireworks can be a fun feature of the holiday, they can also be quite dangerous.
"YouTube videos of people hanging onto the fireworks, shooting them off, and 'hey, watch this,' those are the times people get hurt," Meridian Township Fire Department Battalion Chief Ken Phinney said.
Santiago Arcaute, Manager of Phantom Fireworks, said that as fun as they could be, fireworks weren't suitable for all people.
"Not everybody knows how to exactly use fireworks the proper way," Arcaute said.
In his store, customers are required to sign waivers stating that they'd use the fireworks responsibly and that they were over the age of 18.
Safe practicing tips include keeping a bucket of water around, keeping alcohol out of the equation, and reading all warning labels for specifics.
