LANSING - With Memorial Day passing, the summer months are quickly approaching. The Michigan State Police Department is enforcing the "Click it or Ticket" campaign. Officers will have zero tolerance for unbuckled motorists and will be looking for reckless and unsafe driving.
According to the Michigan State Police, five people lost their lives in four separate traffic crashes during the 2016 Memorial Day holiday weekend. In comparison, six traffic crashes resulted in eight deaths over the 2015 Memorial Day day weekend.
Meridian Township Assistant Chief of Police, Ken Plaga, states that summer brings more family vacations and more traveling.
With more traveling means more miles you are driving and the more exposure one would be to having an accident. The solution to being safe in your vehicle is wearing a seat belt because they help prevent injury and death.
