MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - It has been a big year for the Meridian Township Fire Department. New fire station, demolition of the old and new fire fighters. For their next trick, they have unveiled a new training apparatus.
The Fire Department recently completed their construction of the their new Pakel Training Prop. The prop is a wood construct with the ability to replicate multiple evacuation scenarios found in a burning building.
"What this prop is gonna do is basically simulate a building for us. As you can see its also low to the ground, too, so we can do those ladder bailouts and those roof cuts. We can put harnesses on and be safe and just go through the evolution. Trying to get the mechanics down. So that's what the smaller prop allows us to do," said Lieutenant Ryan Campbell.
The Pakel prop can be easily dismantled and stored in a relatively small space so that training can be conducted in the controlled environment of the station.
